LONGEVITY

Ensuring the longevity of our products is a top priority for us.

We focus on utilising the finest leather, craftsmanship, and meticulous care to guarantee that our products last for years.

Our vision very much aligns with the slow fashion movement that promotes quality, sustainability, and longevity.

Ettinger does not encourage in any way seasonal changes of products, and we firmly believe that it is possible for our products to last a lifetime or more, if properly cared for.

SUSTAINABLE LEATHER PRODUCTION

When crafting our products, we use goat, and cow skins, each sourced responsibly.

Our goat hides are raised and tanned in Europe, while cow skins originate from animals raised and tanned in the UK or Europe.

All our skins adhere strictly to European Standards or UK legislations, ensuring ethical and sustainable practices.

It’s essential to note that all cattle are strictly limited
to those sourced from animals raised for both meat and leather production.

We do not support the use of animals reared for their pelts alone such as mink or crocodiles or any exotics.

Most of our suppliers are certified Leather Working Group, which is a community dedicated to building a sustainable future with responsible leather.

They are working with the traceability group to provide us with essential animal welfare information.

We actively collaborate with our tanneries to uphold
high standards of animal welfare.

We recognise the environmental challenges surrounding the leather industry, including rainforest deforestation, animal welfare issues and chemical, water use in tanning, therefore we take our responsibility very seriously.

That is why we make sure that all our tanneries are REACH certified and either use vegetable dyes and/or are REACH compliant.

REACH is a EU regulation, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry.

It also encourages the usage of alternative methods for the hazard assessment of substances to reduce animal testing

WASTE MANAGEMENT

We take great care in our leather crafting process to minimise waste which means we do not generate sufficient leather waste for recycling.

Our meticulous approach to cutting ensures that we use most of the leather when making our products.

However, if we do get leather leftover, it is repurposed into smaller items such as bookmarks ensuring that nearly every part of the skin is utilised, thus reducing waste.

In addition to our leather reuse efforts, our packaging materials and printing ink cartridges are recycled, along with shredded paper, which undergoes recycling through SDR.

It's worth noting that leather naturally decomposes organically under the right conditions without causing harm to the environment.

REDUCING ENERGY CONSUMPTION & CO2 EMISSIONS

In the past five years, we've achieved a 26% reduction in our energy consumption, attributable to several key factors: the renovation of our building, installation of new boilers, and enhanced staff awareness, all of which have contributed to significantly improved insulation.

Moreover, at our Walsall factory, over 80% of our manufacturing processes are done manually, minimising our energy usage. Only a fraction of our operations relies on electricity, primarily through the use of sewing machines.

To improve our CO2 emissions, we've also implemented strategies to streamline our delivery processes. By grouping shipments wherever possible and adopting the DHL GoGreen Plus delivery solution, we're actively reducing the carbon footprint associated with our logistics operations.

GoGreen Plus represents a significant step forward in sustainability for our company and helps us reduce the carbon emissions associated with our shipments using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

SAF is a biofuel that is produced from renewable sources such as vegetable oils, animal fats, waste products, and agricultural crops.

It is specifically designed to be used as a substitute for traditional jet fuel and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil fuels.
