FAQs

What is the best leather for briefcases?

Full Grain and Vegetable tanned leather are considered to be the finest leather for luxury briefcases as they are renowned for their durability and rich patina. Our Buttero leather, reserved for our finest briefcases, uses Tuscan vegetable-tanned leather and is a unique and iconic leather. The innate matt colours of the tannins give a natural look that is deep and rich, making it age beautifully over time as the colour intensifies.

How long should a leather briefcase last?

A well-made leather briefcase can truly last a lifetime with the right care. Over the years, quality leather develops a rich patina, turning it into a lifelong companion. To maintain your Ettinger leather briefcase, gently wipe the surface with a soft cloth and avoid exposing it to very wet or humid conditions.

Does real leather get better with age?

This is a personal opinion but yes, real leather often gets better with age. Over time, it develops a unique patina, becoming softer, richer in colour, and more characterful. With proper care, like gentle cleaning, conditioning, and avoiding excess moisture, leather matures beautifully, making each piece more unique and attractive the longer you use it.

How to clean leather briefcase?

To clean your Ettinger leather briefcase, gently wipe with a soft cloth. Avoid wet or humid conditions; if damp, let it dry naturally away from heat, then polish lightly. Oils, waxes, or balms can darken aniline leathers, so use sparingly and only apply when the product is completely dry. Leather is naturally a supple material so will change shape easily, therefore, please avoid compressing your leather briefcase or adding pressure as this will affect the item and can strain the stitching.
